Who we are

Every child needs protection and care

Most Western Australian children grow up in a family that protects and cares for them. For some, home is not a safe place. Where a child needs protection, and as a last resort, the Department of Communities takes action to bring them into the CEO’s care.

On behalf of the WA community, the CEO of the Department of Communities assumes parental responsibility for these children. Out-of-home care exists to provide safe, stable, nurturing care arrangements so children can heal from the trauma they have experienced and go on to lead their best lives, while maintaining lifelong connections with their family, carers and other safe, nurturing people.

Helping Community Solutions is a community sector organisation providing residential care and out-of-home care arrangements, from emergency and short-term through to long-term care, for children and young people in need of protection and care, working alongside the Department of Communities, Crisis Care and other state agencies.

CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN OUT-OF-HOME CARE

Why Helping Community Solutions exists

In 2016 the Department released its out-of-home care reform plan, Building a Better Future: Out-of-Home Care Reform in Western Australia, calling on the community services sector to deliver more innovative, flexible and efficient care. Helping Community Solutions exists to meet that need for the most vulnerable members of our community.
